ROBERT C. WALTHALL - is a senior partner with the law firm of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, which has offices in Birmingham, Montgomery and Huntsville, Alabama; Jackson, Mississippi and in Washington, DC. He holds a master in taxation from New York University and an accounting and law degree from the University of Alabama; member Phi Delta Phi, Farrah Order of Jurisprudence, past Editor-in-Chief, Alabama Law Review.
He has been a tax author for the Bureau of National Affairs (BNA), Washington, D.C., for the past thirteen years and for the National Business Institute (NBI) for ten years. BNA is one of the nation's largest publishers of business, economic and tax related topics and has published several of Mr. Walthall's tax works including: "Equipment Leasing," "Safe Harbor Equipment Rules" and "Deductibility of Legal Accounting and Illegal Payments of Bribes." Mr. Walthall has co-authored numerous tax works for NBI including various work on state tax, choice of entity and related topics. He also contributed "State and Local Tax Incentives" to a recent supplement of the US Taxation Guide to the "International Tax Review."
Mr. Walthall is a Fellow, American College of Tax Counsel, and is a member of the Alabama, (past Chairman-Tax Section), and American Bar Associations. He is past-Chair of the Alabama Federal Tax Clinic and serves on the State Tax Legislative Committee; he is a member of the Alabama Law Institute and is a co-author of recent Alabama business legislation including the Alabama Business and Nonprofit Entities Code (2007), Limited Liability Company Act, the Limited Partnership Act, the Business Corporation Act and the 1997 amendments to the LP and LLC Acts. Mr. Walthall is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in both corporate and tax law. He is a Trustee and Chairman, of the American Institute on Federal Taxation; he is also a Trustee of the Southern Federal Tax Institute, Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Walthall's practice encompasses a broad range of activities, including development and implementation of tax plans for individuals and businesses; representing clients in administrative and judicial tax controversies at the state and federal levels, including the Federal Court of Appeals, U.S. Claims Court, United States Tax Court, Federal District Court and Alabama courts; civil and criminal tax defense representation; organizing and planning for the operation of corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and planning and preparation of wills and trusts, and estate administration.
